Richard Purdey

In Memorial

Richard H Purdey, age 65, succumbed to a heart attack in the late afternoon of Thursday, August 22, 2013 in Maple Ridge BC. He is survived by his two daughters, Erin (Brian), Morgan, his two brothers Don, Graham and was predeceased by his wife Brenda in 1993.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Richard joined the Maple Ridge Fire Department in 1968 and after a 30 year career, retired as Deputy Chief in 1998.

In his retirement, Richard spent countless hours at local coffee shops with friends and built his dream vacation home in Melaque, Mexico, where for many years he enjoyed the warm climate during our dreary winter months.

After a lifetime spent working in service of others, Richard continued to give even after his death as an organ donor and he would encourage all to do the same. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at 11:00am at the Maple Ridge Alliance church at 20399 Dewdney Trunk Rd. The family will be there to greet relatives, friends, and those that wish to pay their respects.

Memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

Expression of sympathy can be made below.

  2. Pat Underhill (Seigo) :

We were so sorry to hear of Richards passing at such a young age. I went to school with Richard and have many fun memories of that time. Our thoughts and prayers go with you at this sad time. Bless you all.

  3. Jim Terepocki :

Richard was a great guy…Sorry to hear of his passing. Richard and Graham got me collecting antique bottles in 1969….I still do! I look at my antique kitchen cabinet every day, we bought from Richard in 79’…RIP Richard!

  4. Barbara & Rob Ewart :

Rob & I were Richard and Brenda’s neighbours for 6 years on Tamarack Lane. We both got to know Richard quite well, and we reacquainted ourselves when I moved back to Maple Ridge in late 2005. I ran into Richard often, as he enjoyed coffee with friends at Valley Fair.
We are extremely saddened to learn of his death so long after the fact. His smiling face will always be remembered, as well as his love for Erin and Morgan, and Mexico. Richard loaded his truck with school supplies for the Melaque primary school near his place there. His heart was huge & loving.
He was a terrific neighbour & we enjoyed having the family as neighbours. Very sad to lose him so young.
~Much love to Erin & Morgan, who loved their dad so much.
