James (Jim) Lohnes

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved husband Jim Lohnes on Jan. 19th, 2018 in Maple Ridge. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia March 2nd, 1948. Within a few months of his birth, his father drove his family across Canada to settle in Maple Ridge. He is survived by his loving wife, Val and their son Trevor (Nicole) Lohnes and their children; granddaughter Shelby (10), granddaughter Kayley (8), and grandson Kesler (6). They will always remember his delicious waffles, pancakes and treats. Their son, Kevin Lohnes, their daughter Charlene Johnson (Stu), his sister Wendy (Le) Leonberger, and their children Michael (Krissy) Leonberger, Cat(Frank) Abbott, brothers in law Dave Cobb (Maggie), Ron Cobb (Laurie), sisters in law Gerda Knuff (Bill) and Gabrielle Krause. Predeceased by his parents Warren and Peggy Lohnes and his brother David Lohnes as well as his brothers and sister in law Monica (Darcy) Blomquist and Randy Cobb. There are also many many treasured friends, nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren and relatives back east that are all remembered. We will all miss him dearly for the rest of our lives.

Jim was a long time resident of Maple Ridge where he sold Real Estate for years. His love of music led him to belong to the Gentleman of Fortune Barbershop Chorus for many years. In retirement he enjoyed singing with the Ridge Meadows singers and performing with Variety Plus at the Ecro Center.

For those who wish to join us, the interment will be February 2nd at 11am at the Maple Ridge Cemetery and the memorial will be at 2pm February the 3rd at Garden Hill Funeral Home – 11765 224 Street, Maple Ridge.

    Dear Char and Family,
I was able to get to know Jim a bit through Char’s posts on Facebook. What a wonderful man, what a wonderful family. Humour, love and respect shone through the photos and descriptions.
I will keep you in my thoughts during this time of mourning. I am so sad you lost Jim.

  5. Val and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I remember fondly my years working for Jim at Jim’s Record Bin. He hired me after many weeks of me pestering him as he was building the new store. That job provided me with a very dear friend, not only with Jim but with the entire family. We had many laughs in my years working with and for Jim. Take comfort in knowing that Jim had such an impact on anyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him.
I will always treasure my memories of Jim.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  6. Rosalie Schoenborn :

    Dear Val and Family,
I feel so sorry for your loss.
Three months of getting to know Jim showed me that he cared about People like rarely other people do. Just to mention that he provided us with loads of popcorn and Ginger Ale while watching Jeopardy. His sense of humor made everyday a special one to me.

  7. Dearest Val and family,

It’s hard to know where to begin…. our families have been neighbours, friends and support through many years together. My heart breaks for you all and Jim will be dearly missed. Jim holds a very special place in my heart as he provided great support during my loss of Dan and for that I will be always grateful.
My hope is that the outpouring of love being sent your way wraps it’s arms around you all and keeps you warm during this most difficult time. xo

  8. Keesha Rosario :

Dear Val and all of your family,

When the members of the Rotary Club of Haney heard this news, we were deeply saddened. Jim was treasured by us and our community with his caring ways, his “service above self” soul, and his incredible musical talent (and what a voice he had)! He brought numerous smiles to so many and made an impact, as he will continue to do through all of you. Jim was our former Club President of Haney Rotary in 2005-2005, our Centennial year. He accomplished so much and he sure loved you!

Our condolences from all of us to all of you,

Members of The Rotary Club of Haney
(and all those many many friends and the community who had the opportunity to know Jim)

    -Keesha Rosario

  9. Caroline Veys :

Dear Val, Charlene, Kevin, Trevor and family,
I am so sad to hear that Jim left us last week. He was such a good man! I remember him as someone always in a good mood, funny, generous, and I am sure he fought the disease with courage, strength and dignity, probably smiling until the end to prevent his friends and family from being worried or sad.
I can imagine how empty it feels now at home and in your hearts.
All my thoughts go to you, especially to you Val, going through this tough time!
    With compassion and love,

  10. Roger Kocheff :

  19. I have great memories of Uncle Jim (known to some as Uncle Oreo). He had a kind and gentle air about him that made him easily approachable. As a wee child, you were never afraid to go see him for some cookies and a chat. I’m so glad I got to experience him as both a child and an adult because each had their own unique experiences and happiness. I’ll always remember his heart-melting barbershop quartet performance at Char’s wedding. He was the life of the party and I wish Auntie Val, Trevor, Kevin and Char lots of love and I hope you are doing ok.
