Bernard Vincent Spurrell

July 3, 1930 – February 23, 2016

It is with great sadness as we announce the passing of a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle – Bernard Vincent Spurrell known as “Bernie”, on February 23, 2016 at Ridge Meadows Hospital. Bernie was born on July 3, 1930 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and is pre-deceased by his loving wife Peggy and his two brothers. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Judy (David), sons Terry (Valerie), Lee (Sandi); his grandchildren: Kyle, Chloe and Christy; his great-grandkids: Celes and Hunter and his only surviving sister, Diane (Alan). There are many other relatives especially his nieces and nephews, and great friends from St. John’s Newfoundland, Ontario and BC who will feel the loss of this friend/father figure.

Bernie taught us all to enjoy life and to dig deep and not give up when the going gets tough. He overcame many challenges in his life and did so with a positive “can do” attitude.
Bernie, born and raised in St. Johns and after surviving polio, worked as photographer/reporter for the Daily News and later would move to Toronto work he worked many different careers. Photographer, Heavy Equipment Operator, American Motors, Bank Manager and Real Estate Broker. In 1977, he moved his family to BC where he got back to his roots in Photography. Years later, Bernie, along with his wife Peggy managed apartments until they retired in 2010.

A service to be held in memory of our dear Dad on Saturday March 5th at 11 am at Garden Hill Funeral Home, 11765 224 St, Maple Ridge, BC with reception following at Terry and Val’s. Donations may be made to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation in gratitude for the loving care of staff and physicians.
