In Memorial

July 15, 1935 – July 24, 2017

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Gar Stuart a beloved husband, father and friend. Gar passed away suddenly on July 24, 2017 at the age of 82. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years Katherine (Kathy) and will be deeply missed by his children, Wendy Stuart, Susan Stuart (Lance), Jackie Hogue (Barry), grandchildren Andrea (Aaron) and great grandchildren, Asher and Asa. Gar was born on July 15, 1935 in Vancouver, BC, one of 8 children. Gar was an avid soccer fan, playing the game competitively growing up in Vancouver, but later in life found himself drawn to the friendships made through the activity of Snooker at Bonsor Seniors Center and Lawn Bowling at South Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club. For many years, Gar and Kathy spent most of their weekends at Birch Bay Leisure Park, enjoying the company of family and friends. Gar will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and those who he touched through his many social activities. He will be remembered for his dedication to his three daughters, his sense of humor and the warm way he spoke to you when you were in need of a friend.

All are welcome at a celebration of life to be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6350 Nanaimo Street, Vancouver BC, which will be celebrated by his nephew The Most Reverend Gary Gordon, Bishop of Victoria. A reception will follow at the church. Interment to follow at Ocean View Cemetery.

To The Stuart Family

Sincere condolences to all of you at this very difficult time.

We have many fond memories of Gar, Kathy & their girls Wendy, Susan & Jackie during our time at Victoria Drive Softball & baseball. Gar was President of Girl’s Softball for several years. He was always a willing volunteer. We also shared memories of our time at Birch Bay although we were at a different trailer parks.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.

Gar & Kathy are reunited again.

No more suffering, no more pain. He is now at peace.

Wendy, Susan and Jackie,
Growing up next door, our parents were such good friends and us as well. The Bowling years for our parents created a further bond as they were always active and laughing about something that had happened along the way. I am thinking of you all right now and hope in time you will remember the good times and the tears will disappear soon. Take care and see you Friday, Marion xx

As a kid I remember Mr. Stuart to be the “authoritarian” around the ball park … .but later on came to know him as the gentle father figure of the softball fields He was a great man who cared for all … players, fans, parents & friends of the field!!!

My sincere condolences to Wendy & her sisters … and all those that Mr. Stuart has left behind … in your time of loss!!! May God’s arms of comfort be wrapped around you & provide you the strength to move forward as Mr. Stuart would have wanted you to!!

May his reposed soul rest in eternal paradise with all of our dearly departed, most especially with Mrs. (Kathy) Stuart with whom he was recently reunited!!!

Thank you all for the kind words of comfort. Our dad loved to be involved. He didn’t just participate, he went all in. He was that way with us girls too. It was hard to watch him slowly wear down. While I/ (we), miss him tremendously, there is much comfort in picturing him with mom and other family fully enjoying and participating in all of the things he loved to do.
