Posted By obits On November 25, 2016 @ 11:54 am In Obituaries | 22 Comments

Sheila Mary Klassen (Wald) – June 1, 1937 – Nov 22, 2016. Born and raised in Port Coquitlam BC, the oldest of four children. Sheila started working at a bank at a young age. Her face lit up when she talked about buying her parents their first refrigerator along with other appliances and household necessities. On pay day, she was thrilled to purchase her brothers and sister new clothes and other things. She continued her very generous giving throughout her life.

She was married in 1963, moved to Maple Ridge in 1977 and retired from the Shaughnessy Scotiabank in 2001. She adored her husband George, her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Jesus and family was everything. Known to show family pictures to complete strangers. Also known for her amazing laugh, beautiful blue eyes, abounding love, heart of gold and long good byes. Her claim to fame: May Queen of Port Coquitlam 1948. In the end, she was excited to go home to heaven and see beloved family and friends who have gone before her. Sheila was such a bright light, a blessing to know, an exquisite soul…always and forever our May Queen!

A special thanks for the excellent care to the nurses on 3 North at Ridge Meadows Hospital and to Dr. Bartel and Dr Little. In lieu of flowers a donation to Project Wellness is appreciated – projectwellness.ca. George and Sheila founded Project Wellness and have drilled over 30 wells in Malawi Africa. A memorial well will be drilled in her name and she’d be so honoured.

Celebration of Life will be held at Maple Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec 3 at 1:00pm.

Aunt Sheila was a wonderful woman. Always smiling and laughing. I remember the summer trips from Winnipeg to Port Coquitlam to visit Aunt Sheila and Uncle George and Elanna and Nadine. Wonderful times. I still remember catching a garter snake on one of those trips and Aunt Sheila was kind enough to let me keep it in the house while we were there. I’m sure she wasn’t very happy about it though. We will miss her. We know we will see her in Heaven again some day. What a wonderful day that will be. Praying for comfort and strength for the family.

Condolence from Patti (Clare) Phillips on December 7th, 2016 12:52 pm

Dear George, Marguerite, Larry and family,
I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Sheila. I missed the obituary or would have been at the service for Sheila.
I knew Sheila from childhood as her family lived in our Port Coquitlam neighbourhhod along with the Wild’s and Manion’s. Marguerite and I were of similar age and we were great friends. I remember visiting Marguerite at her house on Sundays after the family attended mass and I remember that George and Sheila were just dating at that time and they would lovingly hang out together at the house.
Many years later, my husband and I lived near them in Maple Ridge and we would chat with them on walks around the block with our dog. George always kept the rancher in such meticulous condition.
I am so sorry for your loss and may your faith help you at this time.
