In Memorial

June 13, 1953 – August 22, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Debra’s sudden passing. She is survived by her loving partner of 28 years Gregor Tirrell and many relatives in various places. She is predeceased by her parents Milton and Edna and her brother Dale. This extraordinary woman managed to do so much and touch so many people in her relatively short life. Debra was born and raised in Fernie. She moved to Abbotsford in her 20’s, where she took up Skydiving with a passion and competed very successfully for many years. She had a career with CPR as a train dispatcher and was able to leave in her 40’s. She then became a golf pro and taught lessons for several years. Golf was a great passion of her’s also. Debra was always willing to help people and did so right to the end by successfully donating organs to transplant recipients on her last day. She will be loved and sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers please donate to BC Organ Transplant Society, BFM Thrift Store or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Debra’s Life will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 at 11:00am at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765 224th St, Maple Ridge.

Expressions of sympathy can be made at below.

Condolences for the family of “Debra Lee Lucas”

Condolence from Glenna Turner on September 4th, 2013 2:04 pm

It was an great experience knowing Debbie. I learned a lot from her in my active golfing days. I was excited to see her casting in the river one day at the back of the house, something she said she had always wanted to do. What an achiever! She knew what she wanted and kept at it right to the very end. If we could all lead such a full life…

Condolence from Mary and Gerry Langdeau on September 4th, 2013 2:31 pm

I am so sad for the passing of my good friend and co worker, Deb. She was a joy though she tried to hide it. She had such a kind heart and was always doing something for someone. Lillian Unger called today when she heard the news. She told me how Deb had helped her and Jake thro medical problems. She was always there with a casserole or a pot of soup. She came to my 60th b/day party and quietly put two deer statues in my garden. I didn’t discover them til the next day. That is so like Deb, so kind but quiet about it. She helped my husband improve his golf game with her advise and encouragement. She was the best and I will miss her so much.

Condolence from Karlene Clark on September 4th, 2013 3:19 pm

I consider it an honor & a treasure to know Debbie. She brought laughter into my life wherever I saw her. Her infectious laugh & smile will always stay with me as who she really was. She was a friend & an inspiration. She never gloried in her skydiving feats nor her golf victories but enjoyed it all as a great ride. With joy I watched her change her career to golf. She truly lived each day to the fullest. May I live so fully. May Gregor be comforted by the memories of their close life together. You did well girl, I am proud of you!

Deb was one of the finest train dispatchers that CP Rail ever had. She was always looking out for the train crews.

Condolence from Gina Patterson on September 5th, 2013 3:01 pm

Debbie and I met in Terrace where we became fast friends. She persuaded me to try skydiving and when I was hesitant to exit the aircraft on my first jump, she “coaxed” me out. We were room mates and moved to Abbotsford in the fall of 1974 where she really excelled in skydiving competitions. She was my maid of honor in 1975 and we both worked for the Federal Government at that time. Once I started my family we lost touch with one another, my loss. I will always remember the great times we had in our 20’s. There was always a twinkle in her eyes and laughter in her voice and a willingness to play a practical joke on someone, usually me. A great lady to soon taken.

Condolence from Dee Mueller on September 11th, 2013 2:00 pm

She was one of those friends that if we didn’t see each other over the years, when we got together we’d pick up right where we left off like we’d only just saw each other. Just sitting on porch with our glass of wine and sharing our skydiving days and remembered friends. I’m going to miss her.
