In Memorial

Born May 28, 1946 in Vancouver, B.C. and died peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital in the early morning of Tuesday, December 7, 2010, with her husband at her side and her two sons and granddaughter with her the evening before. Barb is survived by her loving husband, Fred, her son James and her son Gordon (Liz) as well as her four month old granddaughter, Sadie. She is also survived by her sister Joyce (Peter) Clugston and Lynne (Charles) Woodruff. Barb graduated from UBC and taught for a number of years in Richmond. She also received her diploma in library science and was an on call secondary school librarian. She was active at South Arm United Church and worked tirelessly with the Little Friends Preschool, obtaining support for special needs preschoolers. She also worked as a volunteer on the Board of the Cancer Society, leading the Reach to Recovery and Cansurmount programmes. After moving to Maple Ridge in 1990, she trained as a Medical Office Assistant and worked in a medical office. She was active on the Board of St. Andrew’s Haney United Church, most recently as Chair of the Manse Committee, and was also active in Women’s groups and in the Book Club. She had a fine sense of decor and a flair for style. All who knew her were drawn in by her personality and her sincerity, as well as her determination to overcome all obstacles. She was a true inspiration to many. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Rd., Maple Ridge.

Words hardly express our feeling of loss. Our heartfelt sympathy to Fred, James, Gordon and family and Barb’s family. We counted Barb as a long time and much loved friend. We had happy times together, she was such a warm host and we even shared camping adventures. Fred, we think of you every day. Rest as you you can, nourish yourself and walk in the sunshine on bright days – find solace in music, your memories and good friends of which you have many.

Hello Fred,
we lost contact, however, only in writing, not on mind!
By accident and as it happened I struggled upon this page in the internet, and although it is already more than a year ago since Barb died I shall not hesitate to send you my sincerest condolence.
With fondest thoughts
