Thomas Fisher, 1932 – 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of a truly remarkable, beloved husband, father and “Papa”. Tom had a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. He passed away peacefully Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, BC.

Born January 12, 1932 in Armadale, Scotland. Tom “Tommy” worked as a brick layer, then joined the British Army. He then meet and married Agnes Fordyce and came to Canada in 1957 . He worked at Woodlands School Recreation Department for 30 years and then joined the Commissioners for 20 years. Tom enjoyed helping others, he always had a smile for everyone, and was known for being a prankster and making others laugh.

Tom will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Agnes (Fordyce), son Ian Fisher (Maureen), daughter Bonnie Flint and grandchildren Megan, Lindsey, Kyle, Erin and Tanner, brother Jimmy Fisher and all of the numerous nieces and nephews in Armadale, Scotland.

He still sang a song and made us laugh till the end. He shall be missed by all who knew him.
We Love you forever and always.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Ridge Meadows Hospital for all the love and care they gave to Tom.

There will be no service by request.

  2. I was an employee at CRA when Tommy was posted here. He was the first person I saw in the morning welcoming me into the building. He made me smile, always asked how I was and always had a joke or tidbit of info to share. He was a great guy and will be dearly missed.

  3. Barb Aspeslet :

Tom was one of the most lovable men I have ever met. He was our best loved commissionaire at the Surrey Tax Centre. He knew most staff by name, and loved to tease all of us, not leaving anyone out. Everyone knew who Tommy was. We were sorry to see him retire. My aunt worked with at Woodlands for many years as well and always spoke highly and lovingly of her “Tommy”. She said the patients all loved him as well, which, knowing him, did not surprise me. We hope his family know that we all loved him too, and we already miss him.

  4. I was saddened to her about the passing of Tommy and wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Each morning when I came into work at the Surrey Tax Center, it was always a pleasure to see him and greet him with a “top of the morning” to which her replied “and the rest of the day to you”.

He brought forth a ray of sunshine every time I saw him, a truly kind and wonderful person.

    Rest in peace.

  5. Diana Lindenthaler :

I want to express my deepest sympathy to all of Tommy’s family and friends.

I worked with Tommy at Woodlands and truly looked forward to seeing him first thing in the morning with his cheerful greeting. Made my day. You could always count on Tommy for help and a good laugh. He was a special person that I will always hold dear in my heart.
    Love
    Diana

  6. Cynthia (Toodles) Luchak :

It is with great sadness that I learned of Tommy’s passing. You have no idea what joy he brought to my life. Every every! time I came through the door, a great big smile, many big hugs, little ditties, much much laughter. He was a kind, joyful, remarkable man and I shall miss him greatly. Tommy will ALWAYS hold a very very special place in my heart. I loved him dearly. Yes, there are tears – but every time I think of him, I also smile – twas his twinkly eyes. We were truly blessed to have had him in our lives. With great love and big hugs to the family, Cynthia “Toodles” Luchak

  10. Sandi Lenaghan :

I was so sorry to hear that Tom had passed away and my heart goes out to his family and friends. I first heard about Tom when I came to work last Thursday and saw his obituary, which had been posted at the staff entrance of the tax centre. It reminded me of the many times I had come in through that same entrance so early in the morning to see Tom’s kind face and twinkling blue eyes. He always had a big smile and a friendly greeting for me and I’ve missed it since he left. Many of us were lucky enough to share in his jokes and stories before he retired – he had the gift of brightening our days and making us smile. Thinking of him now, I’m smiling again and I’ll think of him often. Goodbye again Tom, you and your family are in my thoughts.

  11. Sincere Condolences to Tom’s family. Tom was always a welcome happy face to see when I came into work at CRA. We always chatted for a few minutes every morning. I’ve missed seeing him in the morning and am saddened by his passing.
