Blanca Emiliana Freiburghaus

August 09, 1935 – February 12th, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and best friend. Blanca passed away at home on Saturday February 12, 2011.

She was a wonderful mother and a caring grandmother and will be deeply missed by her daughter Diana and son-in-law Hendrik Meekel, sons Chris, Peter, Andy and grandchildren, Karisa, Shana, Kelsey, Jordan, Jillian, Annika and Max.

Blanca is also survived by her sisters, Anne Marie Lawrence, Hildegard Mullauer and brother Martin Schennach (all in Austria).

She will also be missed by her many friends and the Austria Vancouver Club Melody Choir group, where she loved to sing.

Blanca married Otto Freiburghaus (deceased 1993) in 1955 and moved to Ocean Falls, B.C. in 1956 from Tirol, Austria. There they began their family, and she often spoke of the happy times she had there. In 1970, the marriage ended, and in 1972 Blanca met Albert Tsumura, who became her longtime companion of 39 years, who recently passed away on October 25th, 2010.

Blanca worked for many years as a Care Aid at Inglewood Private Hospital. She enjoyed her work and was always kind and giving of herself and those that needed her.

Blanca will be remembered for her big heart and bright beautiful smile, that she gave to all that knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel 11765 224th Street, in Maple Ridge on Saturday February 26th at 1:00pm.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Michael Knight and Dr. Michael Boldt, for their kind words and wonderful care of our dear mother.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C.

Rest in peace dear mom. And may the love and memories you’ve left behind sustain us all, until we meet again.

Maria Magdalena Lopert

February 17, 2011

Born in Hungary on the 19th of August 1927. She married the love of her life Stefan on February 22, 1958. Predeceased by her daughter Monika in July of 2010. She is survived by her husband Stefan; daughter Gabriella Kiser (Doug); grandchildren Lester, Jamie, Danica, Jenaye, Joey, Dylan and Justin. Prayers were said on Thursday, February 17th at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 18th, 2011 at 10:30 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church 22587 – 121st Ave. Maple Ridge, BC

Lloyd Harvey McLaughlin

Passed away February 13th, 2011. He attended Catholic Elementary and Renfrew Collegiate schools in Ontario. Lloyd was an Armourer in the Air Force from 1943 -1946 and worked for 36 years at BCFP Hammond until his retirement in 1987. He is predeceased by his brother Harold and sister Marjorie. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Margaret, daughter Linda of Victoria, and son Michael of Auckland, New Zealand, granddaughters Kristen, Meagan, and Jaime. Lloyd is a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, chapter 5566 and a keen bridge player.

Funeral Prayers and Mass
Prayers will be said at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 16th, 2011 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 20285 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, with the Funeral Mass also at the Church on Thursday, February 17th at 11 am. Interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery.

Bartholomaus “Baba” Meyer

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Predeceased by daughter Sonja Wetteland in November 2004. He leaves to mourn his wife Maria, Sons; Norbert (Tina), Frank (Anita) and Edi Obermeier, daughter Monika (Fred) Cooper, son-in-law John Hansen; 7 grandchildren; Nikki (Nick), Mike (Marie), Rudy (Jenny), Jason, Raymond, Ashley and Meegan, 5 great grandchildren; Mikayla, Nathan, Sierra, Hunter and Paige, as well as relatives in Germany. He was a proud member of the ILWU.

Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Friday, February 18th, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 20285 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge.

James Playford Duncan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Playford Duncan, born Nov.10th, 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia; died peacefully on February 7th, 2011 in Maple Ridge, BC in his 92nd year. Survived by his wife Jean (nee Booth) of nearly 69 years (married March 7th, 1942), his children, James (Elopie), Adrian (Lorna), Caroline, Francis (Xue), six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. James worked for 45 years, mostly in the academic world, including 13 years as Head of Mechanical Engineering at U.B.C. He is loved and deeply missed.

A memorial will be held at the Garden Hill Funeral Home, 11765- 224th street, Maple Ridge at 2 pm on Monday February 28th, 2011. Reception to follow at the same location.

Vito passed away peacefully February 9, 2011 at 69 years of age. Vito will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Ann, daughters Sarah (Dylan), Rachel (Rob), sons Steven, Richard (Sarah) and grandchildren Luke, Jackson and Ava. Viewing will be held from 7 – 8 pm on Tuesday, February 15 at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765 – 224 St, Maple Ridge. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 16 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 22587 – 121 Ave, Maple Ridge. Albert Stanley “Stan” Tryon

March 15th, 1920 – February 8th, 2011

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Born in Port Moody, B.C., Stan lived most of his life in Vancouver, before moving to Maple Ridge in 1993. He was a veteran of WW2 and served in the South Pacific. After the war years Stan was a manager with a wholesale company dealing with bone china. From there his career took him to the flooring business which he enjoyed until his retirement. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor, brothers, Jim, Don, twin brother George, sister, Margaret. He is survived by his only daughter Sharon Mintha (Alf), sister Patricia Drew (Jim), sister-in-law Gladys Tryon. Grandson; Jim Mintha (Sandra), Granddaughter; Leah Mintha, Great Granddaughters; Maya Brun and Aimee Mintha. He also leaves to mourn his many nieces and nephews. Stan touched many lives. His sense of humour and million dollar smile will be dearly missed. Words cannot express our gratitude to the staff at George Derby Centre for their care, compassion and laughter they shared with Dad for the past four and half years.

Celebration of Life
A celebration of Stan’s life will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at 1:00pm at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765 – 224th St, Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.

Gwendolyn Chadwick (nee Parry)

Aug. 26, 1927 – Feb. 4, 2011

Born in Vancouver, and passed away in Ridge Meadows Hospital. Gwen was predeceased by her husband William Chadwick. She is survived by her children, Scott (Cathy) of Nanaimo; Thelma (Burt) of Maple Ridge; Wayne (Juliana) of Squamish; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brother Ivor (Daphne) of Vancouver as well as several other family members. Gwen will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She lived a full and rewarding life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765 224th St. Maple Ridge on Sat. Feb. 12th at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chris Thomas residing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to B.C.S.P.C.A. or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Nursing staff at the Hospital for all their wonderful care.

Thomas Fisher

Thomas Fisher, 1932 – 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of a truly remarkable, beloved husband, father and “Papa”. Tom had a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. He passed away peacefully Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, BC.

Born January 12, 1932 in Armadale, Scotland. Tom “Tommy” worked as a brick layer, then joined the British Army. He then meet and married Agnes Fordyce and came to Canada in 1957 . He worked at Woodlands School Recreation Department for 30 years and then joined the Commissioners for 20 years. Tom enjoyed helping others, he always had a smile for everyone, and was known for being a prankster and making others laugh.

Tom will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Agnes (Fordyce), son Ian Fisher (Maureen), daughter Bonnie Flint and grandchildren Megan, Lindsey, Kyle, Erin and Tanner, brother Jimmy Fisher and all of the numerous nieces and nephews in Armadale, Scotland.

He still sang a song and made us laugh till the end. He shall be missed by all who knew him.
We Love you forever and always.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Ridge Meadows Hospital for all the love and care they gave to Tom.
