Lisa Schmidt

November 22, 2010

Born in Heide, Germany on January 18, 1938, passed away peacefully in Maple Ridge, BC on November 18, 2010. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and caring Oma. Mourning her passing and celebrating her life are her husband of 51 years, Manfred; daughter Karen; son-in-law Brian; and grandchildren Kira and Caden, as well as numerous relatives in Germany including her sister and two brothers. She is predeceased by her parents Wilhelm and Elli, and her beautiful dog Tessa. Lisa loved life and fought to stay alive to do all those things she loved to do including award winning photography, beautiful paintings (especially with her “roving artists” group), gardening and sailing the coast with her husband. She led a full life travelling to various locations around the world, immigrating first to Australia and finally Canada 41 years ago. Burnaby, BC was home for many years where she and Manfred raised Karen, and finally, once Karen moved from home, settled in Gibsons where she always felt most at home. She met many friends both at her work at Variety foods, at the marina where she and Manfred kept their beloved boats, and through the painting clubs she attended. At this time, we would like to thank the staff at Willow Care for their love and support as well as the wonderful nurses at Mckinney Creek hospice for the care she received in her final days. We will be having a memorial luncheon for Lisa at 2pm on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Pebbles restaurant in Sechelt, BC (phone 604-885-5811). We welcome you to join us in remembering our wife and mother on this special day. In lieu of flowers, Lisa requested that you make a donation to the ALS society of BC as they were a great help and support to her throughout her illness. If you have any questions, feel free to email Karen at karen@limegirl.ca
