June 28, 2010

Maple Ridge, BC.

July 21, 1942 – June 26, 2010

Nan passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on the morning of June 26th at McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge.

Nan was born in her family home on 11 Studland Rd in Kent, England during World War II. She emigrated with her family to Canada in 1946. Nan’s family made their home in Regina, Seattle and finally in Edmonton, Alberta. It was in Edmonton at the age of 16 that Nan met her husband Gary, the love of her life. Married in 1963 Nan and Gary embarked on their great adventure. They began their family in the Edmonton area then with 3 young boys in tow made their way to British Columbia settling in Port Coquitlam in 1971. In 1976 Nan and Gary’s family was completed with the addition of their daughter. Nan and Gary moved to Maple Ridge in 1988. Nan’s passion was her children, spending endless hours and many miles driving boys to baseball, scorekeeping and even coaching teams when called upon. In the late 1980’s Nan was able to rekindle her childhood dream of owning horses. Beginning with a small pony named Raffi that she and Gary bought for their daughter, her interest blossomed with the acquisition of Nan’s pride and joy her purebred Arabian, Jawarr. Jawarr provided Nan with endless enjoyment and many proud moments winning many awards throughout Canada and the United States. With their children grown, Nan and Gary worked together in their Real Estate business, traveled together to many horseshows, the occasional cruise but most often preferred the peace and serenity of their own home. Blessed with 11 beautiful grandchildren Nan soon became known as “Horsey Nana”, and loved when the grandchildren came to visit. Nan also enjoyed her trips to the Bingo Hall to catch up with her friends.
Nan is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Gary; her sons Brad (Laura), Joel (Shelley), Randy (Monika); her daughter Erin (Arron) Oberman; her grandchildren Connor, Clayton, Jacob, Quaid, Alexandra, Caleb, Mackenzie, Olivia, Riley, Wesley and Amanda; her brothers Adrian (Rosemary) Jaques, Chris (Laurie) Jaques; her sister Wendy (Glenn) Rundle; and many loving family members.
Predeceased by her mother, Betty Jaques and her father, John McRae.

June 29, 1940 – June 10, 2010.
On Thursday, June 10, our good friend, buddy and longtime companion Buz was taken from our midst. In his youth Buz was widely known for his prowess in lacrosse and other sports and that passion and fighting spirit never left him right to the end. Even though he suffered greatly in recent years, Buz seldom complained. He retained a keen sense of humour until his final days. Always proud of his Nordic background, Buz would often regale us with his stories of that heritage. Once an avid sport fisherman, Buz recalled with fondness fishing trips with family and friends to B.C.’s interior. Buz is survived by his longtime companion Mary Holden to whom he was devoted and many friends and relatives. No service by request. A gathering of friends will be arranged at a later date.
